Essential Supplies Every Airbnb Should Have

How to create a comfortable, guest-ready space—without stocking a mini Target.

After 8+ years as Airbnb hosts, we’ve learned that the most appreciated amenities are often the most basic: a well-made bed, a clean bathroom, and a space that feels like home. But nothing disrupts a great stay like running out of toilet paper or realizing there’s no soap after a long day of travel.

Here’s a list of must-haves and nice-to-haves to make your guests feel welcomed—while keeping your Airbnb stocked smartly (and safely).

The Non-Negotiables (Provide These Every Time)

These are the bare minimum for a guest to have a stress-free stay—and yes, you should restock them between every booking:

  • Toilet paper (at least 2–3 rolls per bathroom)

  • Hand soap at every sink

  • Dish soap and a sponge

  • Trash bags (extras under the sink or labeled)

  • Shampoo + conditioner (travel size is fine!)

  • Cleaning spray (something basic and multi-purpose)

Why it matters:

These aren't luxury items—they're expected. Guests don’t want to go shopping for basics, especially when they arrive late or are only staying a few nights.

Comfort Essentials That Make a Difference

You don’t have to go overboard, but a few thoughtful touches go a long way toward 5-star reviews:

  • Quality bedding and pillows (at least two per person)

  • Extra blanket or throw (stored visibly)

  • White, fluffy bath towels (1 per guest, plus 1–2 extras)

  • Blackout curtains or blinds

  • Fan or sound machine (especially in older homes or cities)

  • Coffee station – machine, filters, mugs (even if BYO coffee)

💡 Bonus comfort points: Add a luggage rack, nightstand charging cable, or bedside lamp. Guests notice the little things.

Safety & Convenience

Being thoughtful also means being responsible. These are simple items that help keep your home safe—and ready for any “just in case” moments:

  • Fire extinguisher (mounted or visible)

  • First-aid kit (clearly labeled)

  • Flashlight or emergency lighting

  • Plunger (trust me, it’s better if they don’t have to ask)

  • WiFi info printed and posted

  • Contact numbers or local emergency info

Lock Up Your Extras

A word of advice from experience:

Guests will use what they see. Or take it.

If you leave out a Costco-sized pack of TP, dish pods, or 12 shampoos—some guests may feel entitled to take them home. To avoid this:

  • Only leave out what they’ll need for their stay

  • Lock up surplus items in a labeled "Owner's Closet" or cabinet

  • Keep restocking simple by using a checklist for turnovers

What Guests Should Bring Themselves

While it’s nice to go above and beyond, your Airbnb isn’t an all-inclusive resort.

It's okay—and expected—for guests to bring:

  • Toothpaste + toothbrush

  • Personal toiletries

  • Food/snacks

  • Specialty coffee/tea preferences

  • Laundry detergent (unless you want to provide it)

Final Thought

Comfort doesn’t come from excess—it comes from intentional hospitality. Stock the essentials, add a few thoughtful touches, and set clear expectations. Your guests will appreciate the care and the clarity.
