FRIDAY

Lunch at Two Doors Down

Start your weekend with lunch at Two Doors Down, located right in the town of Halifax and walking distance from The John Brown House. It is the perfect casual spot to ease into the slower pace of the weekend while exploring the historic downtown area.

Dinner at Blue Jay Bistro

For dinner, we highly recommend making reservations ahead of your trip at Blue Jay Bistro in Littleton, North Carolina. This cozy and well loved restaurant is known for its incredible atmosphere, fresh ingredients, and elevated small town dining experience.

Before dinner, stop by Timber Waters Brewery for a local craft beer and a laid back start to your evening.

After dinner, treat yourself to something sweet at Sunset Slush before heading back toward Halifax.

If you are not quite ready to call it a night, head over to The Trophy Room, located within walking distance from the house. This local favorite is a great place to unwind with a drink and relax after a full day of exploring.

SATURDAY

Slow Morning at The John Brown House

Sleep in a little and enjoy a slow morning with coffee on the front or side porch in one of the rocking chairs. We proudly stock coffee from Lake Gaston Coffee Company, one of our favorite local coffee companies.

If you feel like taking a scenic drive, head to Jenny Cakes at the Lake, a family owned bakery known for fresh donuts, bagels, pastries, and desserts.

Prefer to stay closer? Grab breakfast at Oscar's Restaurant, one of our favorite local diners.

Lunch at Second Street Lunch

For lunch, make your way to Second Street Lunch. Trust us when we say you should order a burger here. They are known locally for good reason. Just make sure you arrive before 3:00 PM when they close for the day.

Afternoon at Weldon Mills Distillery

Spend the afternoon exploring Weldon Mills Distillery for a distillery tour, handcrafted cocktails, and a chance to experience one of Eastern North Carolina’s most unique destinations.

Before heading out, browse the merchandise shop and pick up a few bottles or gifts to take home with you.

While you are in Weldon, make time to explore local shops like Red Wagon Antiques and Riverside Mill for antiques, vintage finds, and unique local treasures.

SUNDAY

Breakfast at Cafe Weldon

Start your final morning at Cafe Weldon for waffles and coffee before heading back to the house to pack up and enjoy one last slow morning.

Cafe Weldon is open on Sunday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Explore Sylvan Heights Bird Park

If you are not rushing home, consider taking one final adventure to Sylvan Heights Bird Park, an internationally recognized avian conservation and education center located in nearby Scotland Neck, North Carolina.

The park is home to beautiful walking trails, peaceful scenery, and one of the largest collections of waterfowl and exotic birds in the country, making it a surprisingly memorable stop before heading home.
