Taking the First Step Toward a Community Pop-Up Market in Rich Square
One of the things I love most about small towns is the heart behind them—the people, the creativity, and the stories waiting to be shared. With that in mind, I recently reached out to the Town of Rich Square to formally submit a request for a Temporary Use Permit / Special Event Permit that would allow me to host a small, community-based pop-up market at my property.
The vision is simple but meaningful:
A small, community-based pop-up market featuring local artisans, held once per month for a few hours, taking place 4–6 times per year.
This would be a curated, low-impact gathering designed to highlight local makers, creators, and small businesses, giving them a welcoming space to share their work, connect with the community, and gain visibility without the barriers that often come with traditional retail space.
Why This Matters for Rich Square
Community revitalization doesn’t always require large-scale development. Sometimes, it starts with creating opportunities for people to gather, support one another, and rediscover what makes their town special.
This proposed pop-up market is rooted in:
Supporting local entrepreneurs and makers by giving them a platform to showcase their offerings
Encouraging visitors to come into town, increasing foot traffic and awareness of local businesses
Fostering community connection through events that are inclusive, accessible, and locally focused
Strengthening small-town economic development in a thoughtful, sustainable way
When towns support small businesses, they support long-term growth. By offering a venue for local creators to thrive, we help keep creativity, commerce, and community investment right here at home.
What’s Next
I’ve submitted a formal request to the town outlining the scope, intent, and community benefits of this market, and I’ll be attaching that letter here for transparency. My goal is to work collaboratively with town leadership and follow all guidelines to ensure this event aligns with the town’s vision and zoning requirements.
I’ll continue to keep everyone in the loop as I hear back from the town and share next steps once a decision is made.
Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest, encouragement, and support. Community-focused ideas only work when the community is part of the conversation—and I’m excited to see where this leads.
Stay tuned 🤍
